I take four or five homes a year. That is on purpose.

That is worth knowing about the person you are handing your house to. I am not chasing turnover and I am not chasing the next job before this one is finished. I take four or five homes a year because that is how many I can be on site for.

I am the licensed builder who prices your home, runs your site every day, and answers for it after you have moved in. Not a project manager. Not a sales rep who hands you over once the contract is signed. Me. I keep the numbers small on purpose, because it means the person who quoted your job is the person you see on site, and the person who picks up the phone when you call.

Video, About Mahdi

A few minutes with me

If you would rather hear it than read it, here I am on site, talking about how I work and what I care about. Everything in it is written on this page as well, so you do not have to watch.

The path here

The way I work

My pure hate in what I do is the transactional relationship. I cannot do it. You are about to spend a lot of money over many months, most of it borrowed, and you are not going to be doing that on your own. I am there with you every step of the way, and I am still there after the keys are handed over, until you are settled in.

I will always be straight with you. If any builder tells you they can achieve one hundred per cent, they are not being honest. If I can achieve ninety five to ninety eight, I am happy, and I will tell you where the last few per cent went. No build is flawless. What matters is whether your builder tells you before you find out.

What comes first

What comes first, in order

01

Safety

And I mean the safety of the people working on my sites. That is my number one, ahead of everything else. A site that is run properly for the trades is a site that is run properly full stop.

02

The standard of the work

Not a promise about it, something you can go and look at. Four coats of waterproofing in a bathroom where two is common practice. You will never see any of them, which is the whole point.

03

That you are happy at the end

Not just on handover day. I stay available afterwards, because there is always something you notice once you have lived in a house for a month. I would rather you rang me than lived with it.

A Bit Of Fun

Quality, price and time.

Pick two.

You cannot have all three, and any builder who promises you all three is setting you up. Tell me which two matter most to you, and I will be straight with you about the third.

I am not the cheapest and I am not the most expensive. I sit in the middle, and I would rather earn the job by being honest about that than win it on a number I cannot hold.

"If any builder tells you that we can achieve 100 per cent, they are lying. But if I can achieve 95 to 98, I am happy."

Why I still do this

Building is a passion for me

The army set me up well enough that I do not need to do this. I do it because I love building, and I always have. That is the honest answer, and it changes how a job feels. I am not chasing volume or the next contract. I am building a small number of homes properly, for people I have taken the time to know.

I did not get into this to be the biggest builder in Canberra. Builders in this country carry a poor reputation, and I know it. I am not going to argue with that. I am just going to build the way I build, and let the work speak.
